次に紹介したいEdward “Lucky” McKee監督の� 画は「The Woods」。
この� 画は残念なことに上� されることなく直接DVDとして発売された。
その割には、凄く質が高くて出演者全員の演技が� 晴らしい！
The Woodsはもう少し伝統的なホラー� 画で、森の中の全寮制女子� �を舞台にしてる。
テーマ的にはホラーというより魔法の話に近くて、1960年代を舞台にしている� けに、その時代のイギリスホラー� 画を思い出させる。
セットやコスチュー� など全て完璧。そしてボーナスとして、伝説のホラー役者Bruce Campbell（死霊のはらわた等）が特別ゲスト出演している！

Lucky氏はこの間紹介したホラーシリーズMasters of Horrorにも１エピソードを監督している。
話によると、去年の年末辺りにMayの続編のような� 画「Roman」がリリースされたらしい。
ま� 見てないけど、興味深いことに今回Lucky氏が主人公を演じ、監督はなんとMayを演じたAngela Bettis。

The second feature film that I have seen by the director “Lucky” McKee is The Woods. It unfortunately went straight to DVD, which is surprising given the very high production values and level of acting shown by the excellent cast. The Woods is a more traditional horror movie centred around an all girls boarding school deep in the titular woods. It is a 60s period piece with a more magical than horror theme and brings to mind British horror movies of the era it depicts. The set designs and costumes are impecible and it also features the legendary Bruce Campbell of Evil Dead fame.

Lucky also directed an episode of the Masters of Horror series that I reviewed earlier.

Apparently a sort of sequel to May was realeased at the end of last year called Roman. I have yet to see it but it sounds intreaguing, as roles have been reversed this time with Lucky in the lead role and Angela Bettis in the directors chair.

最近のお気に入りの監督の一人は米ホラー監督はEdward “Lucky” McKee。
彼が監督した� 画を3作しか見てないけど･･･と言っても実は全部で5作位しかない。
Lucky氏は一番有名な作品「May」（2000年・米）でカルト的な人気を得た。
彼の作品はホラーというジャンルに分けられているが、僕にとっては、ファンタジーやホラーのテーマのある青春ドラマに近い。
なぜかと言うと、普通のホラー� 画と比べると、キャラクター間の人間関係がよく描けていて、本当のロマンスとユーモアも入ってる。
Lucky氏の� 画の� 像はいつも凄く魅力的で、カラフル。
お洒落なん� けど、MTVのミュージックビデオほどやりすぎてない。
とにかく、えぐい部分はともかく、普通のホラー� 画と比べたら、楽しく見れるもの� と思う。
Lucky氏の名作「May」は人付き合いが苦手な寂しい女の話。
彼女は� �張って、周りの「普通」の人と付き合おうとする。
テーマは1976年の伝説のホラー「キャリー」の現代版に似ているが、やっぱり雰囲気的に青春ドラマに近い。
� 画の後半に入った� �にやっとホラーぽくなってくる。
主人公のMayは、Lucky氏の全� 画に出演してる演技派女優Angela Bettisが演じてる。

One of my new favourite directors of late is the American horror director Edward “Lucky” McKee.
Admittedly I have only watched 3 things that he has directed but that is almost the sum total of his work. Lucky gained a cult following after the release of his best known work May in 2002.
Though his films are ostensibly labelled as horror to me they seem like adolescent dramas that happen to have horror and fantasy themes. I say this because Lucky builds up relationships properly between his characters and also injects all of his films with a certain romance and also a sense of humour. The look of his movies is also very special - slick and colourful without quite tipping into the realms of an MTV music video. All in all it makes for a very pleasant (apart from the gore) viewing experience.

May is the story of an awkward and lonely young woman who is desperate to have relationships like the so-called normal people around her. It is almost like a modern day Carrie, but as I explained above the whole thing plays out more like a coming of age movie. It is only towards the end that things start moving in a horror direction. The movie stars the excellent Angela Bettis who appears in some form in every film that Lucky has made.

ウェブサイトのトップページを作るのはいつも大変� と、昔から思ってた。最初Horrorwoodのサイトを考えてた時もいいアイディアがあまり湧いて来なかった。結局トップページにアクセスする度に毎回ランダ� な画像が出て来るシステ� にしたHorrorwoodロゴを出来る� け多く作ろうと決めて、今の時点では6つのデザインがある。各デザインをHorrorwoodレッド、白と黒の限られた3色で作った。これからもいいアイディアを思いついたら、又トップページにアップします。フィードバックがあったら是非言ってく� さい。

I have always found the front page of a website a design challenge and my new Horrorwood site was no different. The idea I settled on was simply displaying a random image that changes everytime the visitor revisits or refreshes the page. I set myself the task of coming up with as many Horrorwood logos as I could. So far I have come up with 6 different designs all created using my theme colours of “Horrorwood red”, black and white. I will be making more as and when ideas come to me. Feedback most welcome.�

Michelle ValiguraとAmanda VisellはThe Girls Productionsと言うアートユニットを組ん� 。
彼女達のアートは全てレトロな50年代の雰囲気で、イラストレーターが紙とペンキ（現在のようにパソコンではなくて）で作品を作る時代を思い出させる。モチーフとして怪物と巨大動物がよく出て来るから、かなり僕の好み。プロフィールによると、二人ともアートスクールには行ってない。この6年間、こま撮りアニメーションプロジェクトで、スカルプター等として働いてた。色んな雑誌にイラストを投稿したり、シンプソンズなどの大手テレビアニメのためにアニメーションを作ったりした。しかし、現在、彼女達のオリジナルプロジェクト（アートとアニメーション）に集中している。

The girls have a wonderful website displaying all of their artwork and design projects. Their work has a retro 50’s feel about it, harking back to the days when illustration was about paint on paper and not computers. They also seem to have a love for monsters and the bizarre which is right down my alley. According to their bios neither of the girls went to art school and for the last six years their day job appears to have been as sculptors and fabricators on stop-motion animation projects. They have done work for various magazines as well as producing animated sequences for such shows as the Simpsons. However they are now concentrating on their own projects, producing both artwork and animation.

Anyway the artwork is quite charming so head over to their site for a peep. If you can find the right links there are also some pieces available for sale.

先週Graph Designに行って、Ｔシャツのパッケージについて打ち合わせした。注文した箱が届いたので、僕がデザインしたシールを貼って、サンプルを作って見た。先週決めた通り、完成品は箱に入れて、ちょっとしたおまけも付ける（インフォカードと各デザインに合わせた可愛いマグネットステッカー）。
以下の写真で完成品の雰囲気が分かると思う。

タグとラベルの話もして、Ｔシャツに僕達のオリジナルタグを付ける事も考えてる。
完成品が来週位に届くはず。ブログにまたアップするので、引続き要チェック！

Last week I had another meeting at Graph Design, this time to discuss packaging design for our T-shirts. The boxes that we had ordered had come in and we set about making up some samples. Each final product will be presented in a box along with a few extras as mentioned earlier - some info cards as well as a random magnet sticker based on each design.� Below are some pictures to give you an idea of what the finished products will look like.

We also discussed tags and labels and are considering hand stitching our own tags onto the shirts. The full batch should be in hand next week, so stay tuned.

最近購入したフィギュアの中、一番気に入ってるのは、今人気を集めてる日本人アーティストT9G（タクジ）がデザインしたMOG（モグ）。モグはヒップホップ好きなうさぎ/モグラみたいな奴。ちっちゃいけど形の良いフィギュア� と思う。実は、モグを手に入れた時に、そのサイズに少し驚いたが、時間が経つとアイツの魅力を分かって来た。うまく考えられた形に、T9Gの作品の特徴を発揮させるフィギュア。その特徴的なス� ーズなスカルプティング、大げさな手や人形の目を使用すること。それにリアルな人形の目は、モグの様なシンプルなフィギュアにはミスマッチなはずなん� けど、実に不思議でいい雰囲気。

最初、T9Gは1個限りの作品・原型を作ることで名声を得た。しかし最近は、限定フィギュアを本人のMuseumラベルで販売するようになった。このフィギュアは、玩具会社Wonderwall（日本人アーティストToumaの名作ナックルベア等を出して来た）が生産している。

Out of my recent toy purchases my favourite has to be a little fellow called “Mog” designed by the Japanese artist T9G (Takuji). A kind of pink hip-hop mole/rabbit fellow, Mog is simple in design yet perfectly formed. When I received him I was actually surprised by just how small he was but over time I have come to appreciate his charms. The sculpt and execution is excellent and he displays the key features of T9G’s designs - smooth sculpting, exaggeratedly large hands and his signature use of real doll eyes. The doll eyes should be completely out of place on a simple figure like this but end up creating a whole different feel from similar toys.

T9G first established his name as a master figure sculptor and has created many one-off works. Recently he has also produced a limited number of commercially available figures in very limited runs under his Museum label. These figures were released through toy company Wonderwall, who have been responsible for classic toys such as Touma’s Knuckle bear, of which I am also a great fan.

今年後半にT9Gはフィギュアをリリースする予定でワクワクしている。有名なデザインチー� Devil Robotsとのコラボで、T9Gが考え直したEvirobフィギュアとなる。宣伝の写真を見たん� けど、スカルプティングは相変わらず凄くて、Evirobの基本形を守りながら、T9Gの発想力をいかしたフィギュアになると思う。今回は無敵玩具会社Medicom（メディコ� ）の商品。詳細についてはこちらをクリック。

T9G has a very exciting release scheduled for later this year. He will be collaborating with the famous design team Devil Robots, with a reinterpretation of their Evirob figures. The sculpt looks amazing, showcasing T9G’s creature design skills while keeping true to the original Evirob form. I visited Graph Design last week and we now have the sample T-shirts in hand. Even though I do say so myself the results were very pleasing.

2 designs were done using silk screens (Robots & Fiends) and 1 using digital printing (Skullboy). Both yielded very nice results but a slightly different feel. Fiends seem to work best as a screen print due to the simplicity of the design, and Skullboy really benefited from the vibrant colours that the digital printing can offer - apparently a slightly more expensive technique was used and this paid off with a nice mat finish as apposed to the usual horrible shininess.

先週Graph Designに行って、出来立てほやほやのＴシャツのサンプルを見て来ました。自分で言うのもなん� けど、出来が凄く良かった。

全部で3三つのデザインがＴシャツ化した。２枚がシルクスクリーン（ロボットとFiends）で、１枚は転写プリント（Skullboy）で作った。どちらともいい感じに仕上がったが、雰囲気がそれぞれ微妙に違う。Fiendsのデザインがかなりシンプルなので、シルクスクリーンに一番向いていると思う。写真では見にくいかも知れないけど、Skullboyは転写プリントのお陰で凄く鮮やかな色になった。Skullboyのデザインには普段よりちょっと高いテクニックを利用したらしい。そのため、よくあるダサいピカピカ感がなく、良い感じのマット仕上げになった。

Each shirt will be available in various different colourways and sizes (including kids) and the Robots will be available as a tank top for the ladies (see above).

We are currently working on the packaging. Each shirt will come in a presentation box that also includes a few extra goodies as mentioned before.

Shirts should be available for purchase next month. Watch this space.

各デザインは様々な色合いとサイズで（キッズを含めて）展開する予定。それから、Robotのやつは（上記の）レディーズのタンクトップにもなる。

今、パッケージデザインは推敲中。各Ｔシャツはステキな箱に入れて、楽しいおまけも付いてる。

I have recently been watching the Showtime series Masters of Horror.
It is a series of one hour horror shorts each directed by a famous horror director. Names include John Carpenter (Halloween, The Thing), Dario Argento (Suspiria, Inferno), Tobe Hooper (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Poltergeist) and John Landis (An American Werewolf in London). There are also many interesting cameo appearances from famous horror actors.

最近米ショータイ� ネットワークのマスターズ・オブ・ホラーというシリーズを見てる。各1時間のエピソードは別の有名ホラーが監督してる。ジョン・カーペンター（ハロウィン、遊星からの物体X）、ダリオ・アルジェント（サスペリア、インフェルノ ）、トビー・フーパー（悪魔のいけにえ、ポルターガイスト）、ジョン・ランディス（狼男アメリカン）などなど。沢山の有名なホラー役者も特別ゲストとして出演してる。

Though it is very much a hit and miss affair there are a few stand out episodes. John Carpenter’s “Cigarette Burns” for example is one of the best horror pieces I have seen for a long time and almost feels like a full length feature. It is also nice just to have a horror based series and with 2 series of 13 episodes a piece it will certainly keep you entertained for a while.

全てのエピソードが面白いってわけではないけど、傑作と言っていいほどのエピソードもあった。その一つはジョン・カーペンター監督の「世界の終わり」で、最近見たホラーの長編� 画よりずっと面白かった。二つのシーリズで全２６エピソードがあるからしばらく楽しめそう� 。
