今日、Graphで松岡夫妻と打合せがあった。
なんでかというと・・・、今、ビッグな計画が進行中� から！
写真のとおりオフィスは今改装をしていて、夏には『デザイン事務所』兼『ギャラリー』兼『ショップ』として生まれ変わる予定。

このプロジェクトはかなり大きな企画で、沢山の人達の協力が必要になる。
Art of Gravity展で一緒� ったTriumph Designの中井こうじろうさんも今日来てくれていた。
彼はインテリア・家具など、そして同じくRedsilのJohn Boardleyはエクステリアでそれぞれの才能を活かしている。そして僕は･･･出来ることはなんでも手伝う予定� 。

完成したらかなり面白くなりそう� （既に面白い� �所なん� けどね）。
このスペースを使って展示会をやったり、デザインの企画をしたり、他のアーティスト達とコラボイベントをしたりなど、色々なアイデアがすでに浮かんでいる。これは目が離せなくなりそう� ！

I had my weekly meeting with the Matsuokas at the Graph office today.
Big plans are afoot. As you can see from the photos above, the office is undergoing a complete transformation. The plan is to officially re-open Graph this summer as a design office/gallery space/shop.

The whole project is a big undertaking and is a collaborative effort between many parties. Kojiro Nakai of Triumph Design was also there today. He will be working on the shop interior and fittings. John Boardley of Redsil fame will be helping with the exterior design (amongst other things), and I myself will be lending a hand where I can. Kojiro and John were my brothers in crime at the Art of Gravity exhibition earlier this year.

It should be a very interesting space once completed (indeed it is already), and there is already a multitude of plans brewing for exhibitions, new design projects, further collaborations and the like.

今まで何回も｢1円スタート｣というネットオークションを見てきた。
毎回入札してしまうけど、毎回がっかりする結果になる。
オークションの終了日が近づくと、値段が段々と上がっていって、しょっちゅうアイテ� の定価より高い値段で落札される…

しかし！今回は大当たりを� した！

本当は僕のおもちゃ買い物リストに入ってなかったが、たまたまオークションで見つけて、1円� ったら何でもいいと思った。

終了日が来たら、いつものオークションスナイパー(?)が現れて、どうせ僕の目の前で盗まれてしまうと思った。
しかし、結局現れずにオークションがス� ーズに済んで、1円のVans Action Dudeの飼い主になってしもうた！

Dudeをもらってから、フィギュアのデザインが面白くて、実際に好きになってきた。このフィギュアは香港の人気デザイナーElphonso Lam（エレフォンソラウ）の作品で、米スニーカーメーカVans（ヴァンズ）社の販売促進用の限定品となる。

Dudeは全体的にレトロな雰囲気を出してる。手と足がフワフワで、� �がフロック� 工されてて、でかい70年代のスケボ－に乗っているから、かなりユニークなフィギュア� と思う。その上1円で手に入ったので、僕のコレクションの中で既に特別な存在になった。

I cannot count the number of times I have seen internet auctions that start at 1 yen or 1 cent.　Every time I am tempted to put in a bid, even though it always ends in disappointment.
As the final day of the auction approaches the price creeps up and often ends at price even higherthan the true value of the item…

This time however I finally hit the jackpot!

Admittedly I stumbled upon the auction by chance, and though the item in question was never on my shopping list, for 1 yen　I’d be pretty happy with any old junk.

The final day of the auction came and I fully expected the usual auction snipers to appear at the last moment and rob the prize from under my nose. However, they never came and now I am the proud owner of a 1 yen Vans Action Dude figure!

Since receiving the Dude I have really begun to warm to him, as he is a pretty tight piece of figure design. Limited to only 350 units, the figure was produced by artist Elphonso Lam as a Hong Kong only promotionalpiece for Vans skateboards.

The Dude is retro in feel, has a furry body and flocked face and comes repleat with a large old skool skateboard. All-in-all a pretty unique figure and at 1 Yen earns himself a special place in my heart.

昔から、米アーティストMike Burnettの大ファン� った。
Mikeはカラフルで完璧な左右対称の木製のおもちゃを作ってる。
全ては手作り・手書きなので、それに（良い意味で）見合う価� �� 。
チアガール、プロレスラー、チンピラなど、ユーモアのあるキャラクターを描いてる。
積み重ね可能の楽しいセットもある。
これはまさしく！大人のためのおもちゃ� 。

I have long been a big fan of the American artist Mike Burnett.
Mike creates wonderful wooden toys perfect in their form and symmetry.
Each piece is hand made and hand painted and so rightfully has a price tag to match, making them very much an adult collectible.
Mike’s creations include playful cheerleaders, pro-wrestlers and gangsters, many of which appear in sets that can be neatly stacked one on another.

I hope to one day own a set of these figures, if I ever get around to saving the cash.

ＧＷにNaokoのいとこが旦那さんと可愛い赤ちゃんと一緒に大阪から遊びに来てくれました。
写真はパパ＆ママがカッコ良くＴシャツを着こなしてる様子！
気に入ってくれたみたいで良かった。とっても似合ってる！
残念ながらベビーサイズは無くって・・・あれば完璧� ったん� けどね。

During Golden Week we were visited by Naoko’s cousin, her husband and their lovely baby boy. Here are some pictures of Mum and Dad sporting 2 of our shirts and looking very good in them if I do say so myself. Shame we don’t have any baby sizes to complete the picture…

この間紹介した、日本のデザイングループDevilrobots。
今回は彼らがデザインした最高級のフィギュア｢Evirob and Enemy」の2個セットを紹介したい（ショッピングチャンネル？！）。

今まで、Evirobフィギュアと言えば、殆どが小型のブロックおもちゃ（キューブリック）� った。
しかし、今回はMedicom Toys社のVinyl Collectible Dollsシリーズの大型フィギュアとして登� �した。
僕にとってこれは凄く幸せなこと。なぜかというとおもちゃに関しては大は小を兼ねると思うから！！

とうとう手に入った。パッケージ自体が凄く印象的� った。パッケージデザインがシンプルで衝撃的。
フィギュアは箱のままでも十分� �好よかった。しかし、開けて見たらさらに興奮しちゃった。今までEvirobシリーズはシンプルな形� が、スケールが大きくなっても� �好よかったので安心した。
形はま� シンプルなん� けど、エレガント（？）な雰囲気も出す。言い過ぎかもしれないけど、この様なおもちゃはオブジェに近いと僕は思う。

その２人の立派な姿をご覧く� さい。

Earlier I mentioned the design group Devilrobots and this time I would like to introduce what I think is one of their finest pieces of figure design so far - the Evirob and Enemy set.

Until now most of the incarnations of the Evirob characters have been as mini block toys, but this time they appear as large deluxe figures produced by Medicom Toys as part of their Vinyl Collectible Dolls series. This made me very happy as, as far as I’m concerned when it comes to toys the bigger the better.

The first thing that struck me when I got my sticky paws on this set was the wonderful packaging. The design is simple and striking and the toys look good even if left in the box. When I did open them up however I was not disappointed. Though the Evirob design has always been simplistic, the transition into a larger scale figure is impressive. Though still very simple the figures are most elegant in form and without wishing to sound pretentious could in my opinion be classed as ornaments.

Anyway please take a look at these boys in all their glory.

今週の大ニュース！松岡さんの商談のお陰で僕達のＴシャツを販売してくれるお店が見つかった！
高松市の北浜アリー・NYギャラリー内の子供服・靴のセレクトショップ『Peek a Boo Yah』。
実は、子供服のマーケットはあんまり考えていなかった。でも『Peek a Boo Yah』店内を見せてもらったときは衝撃的� った。
オーナーの十川さん（Ｔｏｐｐｅ）が自らセレクトしたバラエティー溢れる可愛い子供服の質の良さにビックリ！
Ｔｏｐｐｅさんの商品選びのポリシーは基本的には日本ではなかなか手に入らない海外の商品、そして国内（あるいは地元デザイナーによる）のユニークなもの。
『Peek a Boo Yah』は大企業によるいつでもどこでも手に入る大量生産的なものではなく、小さいながらも良質なものや自然� 材を使ったものを厳選している。
そんなこ� わりを持つＴｏｐｐｅさんが僕達のＴシャツを大変気に入ってくれたと聞き、本当に嬉し～い！

北浜アリーにある『Peek a Boo Yah』は僕達が3月にThe Art of Gravity展を開催した建物のすぐ近くにある。
北浜エリア自体とってもお洒落でカッコよく、『Peek a Boo Yah』も本当に可愛いくて� 敵なお店で、こんなところでＴシャツを置いて� �けるなんて、まさしく僕が夢に描いていた� �所そのもの！

このことがきっかけで、今後も一緒にお仕事ができればいいなぁと思ってる。
既に子供用の小さいサイズに合う次のデザインを考え始めてる。

This week Mrs. Matsuoka found our first T-shirt wholesale customer in the form of� Toppe Sogawa. Toppe runs a children’s boutique clothing store called Peek a Boo Yah in New York gallery in Kitahama (Takamatsu).

Though we had not really thought that much about the kids’ market, after having a look around Toppe’s store we were struck by the variety and quality of the children’s clothing he had selected. His policy is to stock products from abroad that have not yet made it to Japan or unique items made by local designers.

Peek a Boo Yah focuses on high quality, natural materials and small runs, rather than the mass produced products that are readily available these days. Apparently he really took a liking to our shirts as they fitted all the above criteria.

The store itself is housed in a converted warehouse next to the one where we held our Gravity art show back in March. It is a wonderful little area and the store itself is exactly the kind of place we were looking for to display our products.

Hopefully this will lead to a long and fruitful relationship. I have already begun thinking about some designs aimed at children and suitable for clothing that size.

The highlight of the day came when a grandfather bought his grandson one of my Skullboy shirts while we were in the shop. It is good to know that some kid will now be strutting around town wearing one of my horrific shirts.

昨日Graph Designに行って、Ｔシャツの最後の仕上げをやって来た。
全デザインが出来上がって、皆でパッケージなどを� �張って作った。
Horrorwoodラベルを特注したので、取付け作業で松岡さんは一日中ミシンから離れられなかった。
最後の仕上げとしてラベルが付き、自分で言うのもなん� けど完成品が凄く良い感じ。まさにプロフェッショナル！

松岡夫妻の娘さんショウコちゃんにも特別に感謝しないと� め。
せっかくの休みのはず� ったのに僕達の強制労働チー� に参� し、一日中� �張ってくれた。
そのお陰でなんとか作業終了。

I spent the day yesterday at the Graph Design office putting the finishing touches to our T-shirts. All the designs had arrived and we set about packaging the products. Mr Matsuoka had also ordered some custom-made Horrorwood labels and he spent most of the day sweating behind the sewing machine attaching them. The labels added a final professional touch to the shirts, and again though I do say so myself the finished products look pretty damn good.

I would like to add a special thanks to the Matsuokas’ daughter Shouko who was roped into working in our sweatshop though she was supposed to be on holiday. Without her help we wouldn’t have been able to finish everything yesterday.
