この間、香川県の東の方にある、特別な動物園を訪ねて来た。
天気予報によると、その日は梅雨の始まりのはずだったけど、運良く晴れてくれた。
香川の北海岸をドライブして、山中の『しろとり動物園』に着いた。
普通の動物園っていうより、（小説の）ドリトル先生の個人的なコレクションみたいな感じで、驚きの連続だった。
色んな動物があちこちに自由に歩き回ってて、手が届くものの殆どを触ることが。

僕にとって最も印象深いことは、アライグマの赤ちゃんを抱いたこと。それと、象さんの鼻をぎりぎりタッチ出来たこと。

動物園は確かにちょっと荒れ果てて、奇妙なとこなんだけど、動物達はちゃんと面倒見てもらってる気がして、一味違う一日としてお勧め出来る。

ところで、僕の新しい友達ベリー君も一緒に連れて行った。ベリー君は僕の一番好きなデザイナーT9Gの最新作。
ベリー君は小さな緑色の狼で、箱によると：

｢べりーくん　フルーツが主食です」
｢べりーくん　まぬけです」
｢べりーくん　いがいとよわむしです」
｢べりーくん　ときどきなまいきです」

らしい。
今回のベリー君は第二段となる。
原型のやつは去年、ショッキングピンクの限定ものとしてリリースされた。

The other day we took a trip to the east of Kagawa to visit a very special zoo.
Though the weather forcast threatened the beginning of the rainy season it turned out to be a beautiful day. We drove all along the coast and ended up at Shirotori Zoo. More of a Dr Doolittle style random collection of animals than a regular zoo, the place is full of surprises. There are animals roaming all over the place and you can touch virtually anything that is in reach.

The highlights of my trip were being able to pick up a baby racoon and getting a touch of
an elephant’s trunk.

Though the place is certainly very run down and eccentric, we felt that the animals were well cared for and I highly recommend the place for a day out that you won’t soon forget.

I also took along my latest purchase, Berry-kun, another creation of my favourite toy designer at present T9G. Berry-kun is a little green wolf and according to his box:

“Berry-kun’s diet consists mainly of fruit”
“Berry-kun is a bit lazy”
“Berry-kun is surprisingly cowardly”
“Berry-kun is occasionally a bit cocky”

The is the second incarnation of Berry-kun.
He was released in his original shocking pink form in limited numbers last year.

最近浮かんできたアイデアからできた新キャラです。
ここのところＴシャツやその他のプロジェクトでGraphのデザインを主にやっていたので、チョット気分転換☆
色々スタイルを試したり、色々なキャラクターをデザインするのはとっても楽しい。
このキャラはレトロでエコな感じ。
スクリーンプリントを想定して、色は2色に絞って考えました。
かなり満足の出来です！

Here are some new characters that I came up with recently.
I have been spending most of my time on T-shirt designs and other projects for Graph, but for a change of pace I enjoy coming up with new characters and experimenting with new styles.
The idea for these guys was a retro meets ecological type of deal, produced in a limited palette suitable for screen printing.
I am pretty pleased with the results.

気付いた人もいると思うけど、先週僕のブログはちょっとおかしくなった。
新しいデザインというわけではなく、実はさわっちゃいけない所をさわってしまった…
こういうテクニカルなことはあまり詳しくないので、いつもどおりに僕の「ITアドバイザー」のジョン（「Redsil Graphic Design、Art and Typography」 Blog）に手伝ってもらった。かなりの苦労したらしいが普通の状態に戻してくれた。

とにかく、ジョンはいつも僕をピンチから救ってくれるうえに、ブログを1つではなく２つも書いている（本職と同時に！！）。

一個目は上記のグラフィックデザイン、アートとタイポグラフィのトピックを紹介するブログ。
最近このブログのデザインを全体的に改良して、新イメージは凄く� �好いい。
ブログではジョンが様々な興味深いデザイントピックスを分かりやすく紹介する。
ジョンの趣味の１つはタイポグラフィで、このよく見落とされてる技術の話題も色々紹介している。
ブログではユニークな工夫も採用していて、その１つは抜粋した記事を集めた「snippet posts」。このコーナーでウェブからあらゆるデザイン話題を抜粋して簡潔に紹介している。

２個目はMy Kagawa日記。このブログでは僕達の綺麗な香川県の様々なトピックスを紹介する。My Kagawa日記は今英語のみとなっているけど、近いうちに日本語にも書く予定。
このブログのデザインもシンプルで繊細な感じ。将来的にあまりよく知られていない日本の宝物の１つ、香川県のいいＰＲになると望んでる。

これから、ジョンと色んなデザインプロジェクトをやる予定で、余裕があれば今年中にThe Art of Gravity展をもう一回開きたいと思ってる。

Some of you may have noticed that my blog went a bit odd last week.
This was not a new minimalist redesign but more due to the fact that I touched something I shouldn’t have and didn’t know how to fix it. Anyway my usual saviour came in the form of John over at Redsil Graphic Design, Art and Typography Blog who spent a good while getting things back to normal for me.

When John is not busy helping me out of technical fixes he is busy writing not one but two very fine blogs (along with the day job).

The first blog is the above mentioned Graphic Design Art and Typography Blog. The blog recently underwent a complete overhaul and is looking very slick indeed. This is where John introduces a variety of fascinating design topics in a straight forward and personal manner. One of John’s passions is typography and he does a good job of presenting an essential art that usually goes unappreciated. John has also implemented some unique ideas such as “snippet posts” where he briefly introduces interesting pieces of news he has come across.

The second blog is My Kagawa. With this blog John introduces interesting topics from around Kagawa - the beautiful area of Japan where we are both lucky enough to live at present. It is currently only available in English but plans are underway to make it bilingual. This blog is also simple but beautiful in design and will hopefully serve as good promotional material for an often overlooked gem of Japan.

I hope to collaborate with John on various design projects in the near future. We are also planning a second Art of Gravity exhibition for later this year if time allows.
