マンガのカバーがもう一枚できました。
今回のテーマははっきり決まってたわけじゃないんだけど（ヘルレイザーかな～？）、とにかくまた違ったスタイルをチャレンジしたかった。

このイラストはあまり正月ぽくないって分かっているけど、これが今年の最後の更新になので･･･皆さん、良いお年を！

I’m not quite sure quite what I had in mind with this one (maybe Hellraiser?) but was just trying out another new style.

I realize this is not a very festive post, but as my last one of 2007 I’d like to wish you all a very happy new year and all the best for 2008.

今月、僕の大好きなイギリス人アーティスト、ジェームス・ジャービスがイラスト集を出した。この本のリリースの記念として、ジャービスのステキなモンスターのイラストが付いている超限定ＹＯＤフィギュアも同時発売。本はすごく立派で、2002年～2007年に描いたスケッチのコレクションが載っている。本もいいけど、やっぱりＹＯＤのフィギュアは最高！！

実は、僕はまたちょっとわんぱくになって、このセットを自分へのクリスマス・プレゼントとして買っちゃった．．．大人買いって危ないよね～。でも、本にはジャービスの直筆が入ってたので既に僕にとって宝物になっている。

To celebrate the release of James Jarvis’ Selected Drawings, Amos Toys released a very limited edition Yod figure covered in James’ wonderful creature designs. The book itself is a magnificent tome, full of the artist’s original sketches from 2002-2007, but for me the Yod figure is the icing on the cake.

I was a bit naughty once again and treated myself to this set for Christmas…
The book is also signed by the man himself, making it a definite jewel in my collection.

やった！今回本当にできた！同じシリーズで2枚描けた！
約束通りに第2弾のマンガ・カバーを描いた。今回のテーマは明らかにＳＦ。

前からこのアイディアが頭の中にあって、おかげさまで殆ど想像通りに描けた。
コミックのカバーを作り出すというのはなんとなく楽しいので、もしかしてまた描くかもしれない。

ＩＬＴのジョンさんは「本当のコミックを作って見たら」という提案をだしてくれたが、昔2ページ位で止まっちゃったことが何回もあるので、ホラーウッドのコミックが実現するまではかなり時間かかると思う．．．

As promised I actually managed to come up with a second comic cover, this time on a very definite sci-fi tip.

I had this idea in my mind for a while and luckily it came out close to what I imagined. I’m enjoying the whole comic book thing, so who knows you may even see more in the series.

John from ILT also got me thinking about actually making a comic for real; but having thought about it before and never getting beyond the first 2 pages that could take some time…

「新しいテーマを決めた！」などというのはもう言わない方がいいと思った．．．
なぜかというと、僕の最新作が又前のヤツと全然違うから。今回はこの間ブログにのせたスポーンに無意識に影響されたんだと思う。テーマはアメコミの表紙。

注意深い人は今回のキャラクターに見覚えがあるかもしれない。僕が前描いたメキシコのギャング「Muertos」メンバーの中で一番好きなヤツで、今回は新しいコスチューム（とバックグラウンド？）を作ってあげた。

毎回同じことを言うようだけど、今回こそもう一枚位、同じテーマでを描きたいな．．．

I should probably stop writing about themes that I intend to follow, because yet again my new piece is completely different from the last one. I think I was subtly influenced by my last blog entry about Spawn, because the idea behind my new piece is a mock comic book cover.

The most observant of you may recognize the character here from my Mexican Muertos gang series. He was my favourite of the bunch and I have reworked him here with a new costume (and background story?).

This time (and I know I say it every time) I am determined to come up with a least one more cover to go with this one.

長い間、本格的な「アクション・フィギュア」を買っていない。最近は大人コレクター向けのいわゆる「デザイナーズフィギュア」ばかり。だけど、この間アクション・フィギュアの世界に再び戻っちゃった。きかけは有名アメコミ「スポーン」の新シリーズ、「The Adventures of Spawn」。

実は昔スポーンが好きだったけど、最近あまり興味ない。なぜかと言うとMcFarlaneの他のフィギュアと同様、スポーンのフィギュアはたいてい細かすぎて、そのせいで見た目はちょっときたないと思う。だけど、「The Adventures of Spawn」のシリーズにはMcFarlaneはもっとスムーズで漫画チックなものを作った。

今回登場するヤツは殆どスポーンの定番キャラクターで、このキャラクターを新しくリミックスしたって感じ。僕の一番好きなキャラクターは相も変わらず「The Creech」。

For a long time I have not bought what I would call a real “action figure” and have focused more on so-called “designer figures”. Recently however I was tempted back to the world of action figures by one of the new Spawn series, “The Adventures of Spawn”.

I have not been interested in Spawn figures for a while because (like other McFarlane toys) they tend to be over detailed and I dare say rather messy as a result. With The Adventures of Spawn, however, McFarlane has gone for a sleeker, more cartoony feel and the resulting figures are in my opinion wonderful.

Most of the toys in the series are reinterpretations of past Spawn figures, and my favourite of the bunch is “The Creech”, who has long been my favourite McFarlane creation.

There is also a free online comic book to go with the series, which is well worth a look.
