One of my recent web acquaintances is Josh McKible aka Mckibillo.
Josh is an American illustrator whose work will also be included in the Urban Paper book.
Amongst other things he produces the wonderful Nanibird papercraft series.

I have long been a fan of Josh’s papercraft and was happy to discover that his background story is quite similar to mine. Josh got fed up with life in New York a number of years ago and decided to move to his wife’s hometown in Japan.

Josh’s Nanibirds started life as a series of paintings, but were later transformed into perfectly formed paper toys. Sets of birds like the ones pictured above are produced by Josh himself and can be purchased through his website. There are also 2 full series featuring the work of many different artists (see below) that are available for free download.

Josh kindly gave me the opportunity to design a Nanibird for his next series to be released in December.
In fact I ended up making 2 because it was so much fun. The Nanibird is a simple but very interesting canvas to work with.

I usually have to design my papercract from scratch and the whole process is very time consuming. This time it was nice not to have to think about the technical side for once and focus solely on putting my artwork onto the Nanibird template.

On the Horrorwood side of things, I recently renovated my papercraft page, hopefully making it cleaner and more accessible.

最近ネットを通して面白い人と出会った。
Josh McKibleさんは日本在のアメリカ人イラストレーター。Mckibilloという名前で活躍している。
イラスト以外にも素敵なペーパークラフト・シリーズ「Nanibird」をデザインしている。
僕と同じく、Joshさんのペーパークラフトは来年発売される「Urban Paper」の本にフィーチャーされる。

Joshさんに連絡したら、自分の略歴を教えてくれた。彼の日本への道は僕とよく似ていた。
ニューヨークの生活がしっくりこなくて、結局日本人の奥さんの故郷に住むことにした。

僕は前からJoshの「Nanibird」をすごく気に入っていた。
「Nanibird」というキャラクターは元々はシリーズものの絵で、後々にペーパークラフト化されたもの。
上の様なNanibirdセットはJoshさんのウェブサイトから購入することが出来る。
また、色んなアーティストがデザインしたシリーズ（以下）も無料でダウンロード可能！

嬉しいことに、12月リリースのNanibirdシリーズ第3弾に参加させて頂くことになった。
デザインするのがあまりにも楽しかったので、2個も作ってしまった。
Nanibirdの雛形はとてもシンプルで、面白いキャンバスとなった。

普段僕はペーパークラフトをゼロから作らないとだめなので、結構時間がかかる。
しかし、今回はJoshさんが作ってくれたNanibirdのテンプレートにイラストを描くだけでよかった。
僕にとって、ペーパークラフトの基本デザインを作らずに、イラストだけに集中できるということも嬉しかった。

最後に、ちょっとしたHorrorwoodニュースがある。
この間、ペーパークラフトのページを作り直したので、もっときれいでアクセスしやすくなったと思う。

I haven’t had a chance to do many illustrations recently, but in the lead up to my exhibition I did manage to get one done. I decided for some reason to come up with something completely gruesome and the result was this illustration entitled “Ouch”. As gruesome as it is, I did still try to keep a pop aesthetic and I think the colours also help to soften the blow somewhat.

最近はあまりイラストを描く余裕がなっかたけど、展示会の準備をしている間に一枚だけ完成した。
なぜか、本当にグロイものを描きたくなって、結果は以下のイラスト。タイトルは「Ouch」（イタッ）。
グロイっちゃグロイけど、まだポップな雰囲気があって、特に色使いによってちょっと軟らかくなったと思う。

Last week I received a batch of the latest issue of “I Want Your Skull” magazine from my friend Ryan August.
As I mentioned before, my illustration features in this issue so I was suitably excited to get my paws on the magazine.

Though I do say so myself, I think this issue is one of the best so far. For this issue Ryan decided to go with only illustrations and no articles and I think this was a good decision, as it makes for a very pure and clean aesthetic.

先週ネット友のRyan Augustさんから、雑誌「I Want Your Skull」の最新号を何冊か送って頂いた。
前にお知らせした様に、今回は僕のイラストが載っているので、もちろん出版されるのを楽しみに待っていた。
自分で言うのも何だけど、この号もかなり面白いものとなっている。
今回はRyanさんは、あえて文章なしのオール・イラスト版にした。
新鮮で美学的な印象があり、大成功だと思う！
