Over the New Year, I decided to get away from the computer and try to draw some things by hand for the first time in a long while.

At the moment I am working on my pen techniques and sticking to black and white images. I took the lead from an artist friend of mine who spends hours making highly detailed images by using only minute dots.
I found that though time consuming the technique is to my liking and the results are very pleasing.

Here are my first few attempts (a lizard man and a zombie cactus…).

Note: the strange colouring is from the scanning.

年末に久しぶりにパソコンから離れて、手描きにチャレンジしようと決めた。
今はペンだけを使って、色んな白黒テクニックを試している。
アーティストの友人のやり方を真似して、時間をかけて細かいドットで描こうとしている。
このテクニックは確かに時間かかるけど、いい結果が出るから、結構気に入った。

These Mountains Of Madness, These Desperate Gods Of War

I decided to start a feature imaginatively entitled “Artist of the Week”.
Though it may not be every week, I hope to regularly introduce the work of artists that I am into at the moment.

I’d like to begin with the awesome psychedelic work of “Skinner“.
Skinner’s work features neon-coloured monsters and medieval warriors involved in scenes of brutal carnage.
The detail and intensity of his paintings blew me away when I first saw them.
His work has been featured in various magazines and he seems to have strong links with the skate and surf scenes.

「今週のアーティスト」という新コーナーを始めようと思った。
毎週にはならないと思うけど、これから定期的に僕の気に入りのアーティストを紹介する予定。

最初のピックアップは「Skinner」というサイケデリックなアーティスト。
Skinnerの作品には大量殺りくを引き起こしているモンスターや戦士などがネオンカラーで描かれている。
初めて彼の絵を見た時に、その細かさと強烈さに吹き飛ばされた。
彼の作品は色んな雑誌に掲載されていて、スケボーやサーフィンのシーンに深い関係があるらしい。
