A little while ago Josh McKible invited me again to make some customs for his Nanibird series.
The Nanibird is a wonderful base to work with and I happily jumped on this opportunity.

With the exception my Nightmare on Elm Street inspired papercraft I don’t usually do parodies or homages.
However this time I had a stroke of inspiration and had to run with it.

I was reading the Watchmen and thinking about Nanibirds and the very obvious idea of a Nite Owl bird came to mind. Once I had completed Nite Owl I was compelled to create a natural pair for him in the form of madman Rorschach.  Though Rorschach doesn’t lend himself so well to the bird form, I am pleased with result and think they make a nice set.

As luck would have it the Watchmen movie has also just dropped on DVD making for a timely release.
Both toys can be downloaded from Horrorwood Hills or directly from the Nanibird homepage.
Josh has decided to do away with batch releases and will now be periodically putting customs he receives up for download on his site.

この間、Josh McKibleから再び「Nanibird」の新シリーズに参加するお誘いを受けた。
アーティストとして、Nanibirdは凄く使いやすいベース。
デザインするのはもちろん楽しいので、喜んで引き受けた。

僕は普段デザインのパロディーはしない（「エルム街の悪夢」のクラフトはそうですが･･･）。
しかし、今回は突然ひらめいて、やるしかないと思った。
有名なアメコミ「Watchmen」を読んでいるときに、メインキャラクターの1人「Nite Owl」がNanibirdのカスタムにピッタリだと思いついた！
「Nite Owl」の完成後、彼の仲間の狂人「Rorschach」も作ることにした。
「Rorschach」は鳥という形にするのはちょっと難しかったけれど、結果には満足。
この2つのデザインはいいセットになったと思う。
ラッキーなことに「Watchmen」の映画が最近DVDで発売されたので、このクラフトはかなりタイムリー。

JoshはNanibirdをまとめてリリースするやり方から、デザインをもらうたびにホームページにアップすることにしたらしいので、定期的にチェックしてみてね。

The forth wave of Calling All Cars is almost ready to drop.
To whet your appetite, as always I would like to introduce the cars and the designers for this series.

First up is this typically graphically striking number from French artist Tougui.
You may remember that he provided an awesome design for my Snake Eyes artist series a while back.

Secondly we have our first hand-drawn design in the form of this crazy taxi from the youngest contributor yet. American Gabriel Restrepo is only 13 years old and is a very active member of Nice Paper Toys.

Next is this colourful but horrific motor from Italian artist Obokiki.
Obokiki is a prolific papercraft creator but also works in other mediums such as vinyl.
I have received another very unique design from him that will be revealed in a future wave.

Number 4 is another radical design from Scott Schaller who created the monster hot rod for the last series.
This time he has gone for a tank, and though it only uses 1 sheet the craft is highly intricate.
Another awesome and imaginative reworking of my original template.

Last but not least we have the second contribution from Dutch artist Methuup da Funky One.
This time he has gone with a lightning motif and this is the pair to his flaming car from Wave 3.

「Calling All Cars」の第４弾をまもなくリリースする予定。
その前に、いつも通り今回の参加者を紹介します。

まずフランス人アーティストTougui。独特で印象的なデザインを頂いた。
以前Touguiには僕のSnake Eyesシリーズにも素晴らしいクラフトを提供して頂いた。

次はこのシリーズ初の手描きデザイン。今までで一番若い参加者から頂いたユーモラスなタクシー。
アメリカ人のGabriel Restrepoはなんと１３歳で、Nice Paper Toysのペーパークラフトサイトで大活躍中。

三番目のデザインはイタリアのObokikiによる、カラフルなホラーキャラクター。
Obokikiは紙だけではなく、プラスチックなどのおもちゃ作りにも挑戦している。
実は、もう一枚のとてもユニークなデザインも頂いているので、将来のシリーズにリリースする予定。

前回のシリーズの素晴らしいホットロッドに引き続き、Scott Schallerには再び非常に細かいデザインを提供して頂いた。
今回は戦車に挑戦。１枚のクラフトなのにディテールは相変わらず抜群。

最後にはMethuup da Funky Oneから二台目の車が登場。今回のモチーフはまさに稲妻。
このクラフトは前回の炎の車と対になる。

近々全デザインをリリースする予定なのでブログを要チェック！

Designs for the Calling All Cars project keep rolling in.
This is of course fantastic news, but the next question you may ask is:
“What on Earth do all I do with all these cars?!”
Fear not, for Horrorwood has a solution in the form of the Official Calling All Cars Display Box!
So far I have come up with a box for each of the 3 waves currently available on my site.
An extra bit of good news is that the boxes are in theory glueless (and of course free to download).
The boxes can now be downloaded from the relevant pages on Horrorwood Hills:

In other papercraft news, for some reason I was interviewed recently by the Czech Republic newspaper Lidove Noviny. They wanted to now about Calling All Cars in particular and you can see the printed article below.
Though I cannot speak any Czech, it is certainly very satisfying to see my name in print.
