Without meaning to show bias, for me one of the stand out cars in my Calling All Cars series was
Dolly Oblong’s “Jimi” from the first series.
When Dolly launched her Paper Totem series I leapt on the opportunity to reciprocate with a design of my own.
To take things a step further a few months ago I approached Dolly to enquire about the possibility of her making some exclusive Horrorwood plush toys (her other speciality apart from paper).
She kindly agreed and the results are what you see here.
There are 2 colourways of what I have dubbed “Horror Cat”, and 1 of “Horror Bunny”.
For these toys, Dolly took 2 of her existing designs and created these special Horrorwood colours with faces taken from some of my illustrations.
I will be opening the official Horrorwood online store sometime soon and these will be some of the opening products on offer.

贔屓目に見るとか関係なく、個人的に「Calling All Cars」シリーズの中ではDolly Oblongがデザインした第1シリーズの「Jimi」が本当に飛びぬけて目立っていると思う。
素晴らしいデザインのお返しに、Dollyのオリジナル・シリーズ「Paper Totem」にデザインを提供させてもらった。
Dollyはペーパークラフト以外でも、とても可愛いらしいぬいぐるみも手作りしたりしている。
それを見て僕はいつかHorrorwood限定のぬいぐるみを作ってもらえたらいいなと思ってた。
Dollyにその提案を出したら、話にのってくれ、なんと、ここに紹介している可愛いネコとウサギを作ってくれた。
他の作品をベースにしたものに僕が選んだ色と僕のイラストから取った顔の表情を足してくれた。
近々Horrorwoodのウェブ・ストアをオープンする予定で、このぬいぐるみは最初の商品になる。

My group art show “The Art of Gravity” came to a close last week.
Though we were not overwhelmed with visitors, there was a pretty good turn out.
As always everyone managed to muddle together an interesting display with a wide variety of works on offer.

As mentioned before I decided to try an all papercraft exhibition for the first time.
Though displaying paper is a little trickier than illustrations, I think I was successful and it was great to see all of the stuff I had been hording in boxes finally seeing the light of day.

Having so many different people’s work as part of my display certainly made an impact and I’d like to say thanks again to all of you who have contributed designs to the Calling All Cars series or who have done collabo work with me so far.

僕が参加しているグループ展示会「The Art of Gravity」が先週終了しました。
びっくりするくらい沢山の人が来てくれたわけではないけど、良い経験になりました。
相変わらず、幅広いジャンルの作品の集まりなのに不思議と良いディスプレイが出来た。
以前書いた、今回僕は初めてペーパークラフトばかりを展示することにした。
ペーパークラフトは確かにイラストよりディスプレイしにくいけど、結果的には成功したと思う。
ずっとダンボール箱に眠っていた作品がやっと日の目を見た。
「Calling All Cars」のシリーズや他のコラボ・プロジェクトのおかげで、僕の物だけではなくて、色んなアーティストの作品も展示することが出来た。
コラボして頂いたアーティスト達に再び感謝します。

Another wave of Calling All Cars designs is ready to break.
Here is a brief introduction to the cars and their designers.

First up we have a real beast in the form of this monster truck from Brian Castleforte.
At the wheel is one of Brian’s most famous creations “Wack”.
Brian is the mastermind behind the biggest and best papercraft community site Nice Paper Toys, and is one of the true leaders of the scene.

Next we have another great design from Italian artist Obokiki, “Guntrasformer”.
With very little tinkering Obokiki has come up with a very unique take on my original design.

Following close behind we have this cute chap from another Italian designer Ivan Ricci.
Ivan works under the name Kawaii-Style and it is not hard to understand why.
However, this bear is sporting some nifty Mexican Gang tattoos and street wear to balance out the cuteness.

Number 4 is a classy design from American illustrator Brian Gubicza.
We have the very dapper Sir Earl Grey (in his ghost).
I love the simplicity of design and subdued pallet of this piece.

Last but not least is a rather psychedelic car from Singaporean artist Zakane.
For this custom Zakane fitted one of his original characters JustMan into my car.
He then went and covered everything in stripes, which is another one of his signature themes.

「Calling All Cars」の第6弾をそろそろリリース予定。
その前に参加者のデザイナーを紹介します。

まず最初はアメリカのアーティスト、Brian Castleforteによる恐いモンスタートラック。
運転しているのはBrianの一番有名なキャラクター「Wack」。
Brianはペーパークラフト界最大のコミュニティーサイト「Nice Paper Toys」を作り出した、シーンの大事なリーダーの1人。

次は第4シリーズにもデザインを提供してくれたイタリア人アーティストObokikiによる「Guntrasformer」。
天才的な工夫で、車を全く違う物に変身させた！

3番目のデザインはもう1人のイタリア人アーテイストIvan Ricciの可愛いクマちゃん。
Ivanのアート名は「Kawaii-Style」で、このデザインを見てピッタリのネーミングだな～と思った。
でも【可愛すぎ】にならないようにクマにちょっとハードコアなメキシカン風タトゥーや服装をさせている。

第4台目はアメリカのイラストレーターBrian Gubiczaによる上品な車「Ghost」。
乗っているのはこぎれいなキャラクター「Sir Earl Grey」。
僕はこのシンプルなデザインと落ち着いた色合いがかなり気に入った。

最後はシンガポール人のアーティストZakaneのサイケデリック系デザイン。
Zakaneのオリジナルキャラクター「JustMan」を車に合わせて乗せた。
ストライプというのもZakaneの1つのモチーフで、かなりインパクトのある一台。
