I was recently invited to take part in a group exhibition called “A World of Artists in Kagawa”.
The exhibition was designed to showcase the work of foreign residents of my prefecture (Kagawa, Japan).

There will be a wide range of work on display and I think it is a very interesting concept for a show.
The show will run from March 16th-27th in the ground floor plaza of I-PAL international centre in Takamatsu.

この間グループ展示会「A World of Artists in Kagawa」に参加しないかと招待された。
展示会のコンセプトは香川県に住んでいる外国人アーティストの作品を紹介するというもの。
アーティスト達の出身国もジャンルも本当に様々で
色々な作品を楽しめる面白いイベントになると思う。

Here is my latest illustration entitled “Oddomatic”.
Some of you may remember that this is the same title as my friend’s band Eenik’s debut album.

Though this piece was not done directly for the band, I ran with the word Oddomatic to see where it would take me. As you can see the result is a rather messy box of cereal, spilling muck and free gifts onto the breakfast table.

This one took me quite a long time, but I am very pleased with the result.
Hopefully this one will also turn into a poster or appear on a T-shirt at some point.

最新のイラストを紹介します。タイトルは「Oddomatic」。
実は友人のバンド「Eenik」のデビューアルバムと同じタイトル。
これは直接バンドのために描いたわけではないけど、「Oddomatic」という言葉（造語）から何が浮かんで来るか、という実験でした。
出来上がったのが、このちょっぴり汚いシリアルの箱。
朝ごはんのテーブルの上に色んなゴミとおまけの玩具が落ちて来る。
このイラストはかなり時間かかったけど、いい結果が出たと思う。
これもいつかポスターかＴシャツにする予定。

Here are 2 more pieces that I did for my friend’s band Eenik.
The first one turned out to be some kind of Samurai.
Again, I got some feedback from the band which helped create a much better end result.
I adjusted a few elements and changed the colour scheme to neon which I think works surprisingly well.

The second piece was more of an experiment in new techniques.
I reworked an old unfinished illustration and tried out some dirt and paint effects.
The logo at the bottom was created by my friend front-man Craig and will probably be used by the band from now on.
This one will probably not be used by the band but it was a good experiment nonetheless.

A few days ago I received a physical copy of Eenik’s new album “Oddomatic”.
The artwork on the case is fantastic and was also created by Craig.
I of course highly recommend the album. You can listen to a sample and purchase directly from the band’s blog.

アメリカ人の親友Craigのバンド「Eenik」のためにさらに2枚のイラストを描いた。
最初はこちらの侍らしいデザイン。
今回もバンドからフィードバックを頂いたので、いくつかの変更した。
Craigのお勧めのネオン色が意外といい感じだと思う。

2枚目は新しいテクニックを試すための実験だった。
昔描いた未完成のイラストを書き直して、色んな汚れ加工を使って見た。
ちなみに下の方のロゴはCraigがデザインしたもので、多分これからバンドの正式ロゴになる。
最終的にはきっとこのイラストは使わないと思うけど、いい実験になった。

先週Craigから新アルバムのCDを頂いた。
ジャケットのアートは全てCraigがデザインして、凄くいい感じ。
もちろん音楽もお勧め。バンドのホームページで試聴/購入することが出来る。

My good friend Craig’s band Eenik have been working on their first album for the last 5 years.
The hard work has finally paid off and their debut “Oddomatic” was released last month.

Eenik’s music is an eclectic mix of many styles and I can guarantee that you have never heard anything like it before.
In celebration of the release I created the poster above for the band.
This image should make it on to a t-shirt soon.
I will hopefully be working a lot with the band from now on and am looking forward to trying out many new styles.

僕の親友Craigのバンド「Eenik」は5年間年の努力の末、先月初アルバムをやっとリリースした。
タイトルは「Oddomatic」で、バンドのホームページで試聴/購入することが出来る。
Eenikの音楽には幅広いスタイルが含まれて、きっと聞いたことないサウンドだと思う。
アルバムのリリースを記念して、僕は上のポスターを描いた。
近々Ｔシャツにしてくれるらしいので、楽しみにしている。
これからEenikと色んなコラボをする予定で、色んなアートスタイルも試してみたい。

Without meaning to show bias, for me one of the stand out cars in my Calling All Cars series was
Dolly Oblong’s “Jimi” from the first series.
When Dolly launched her Paper Totem series I leapt on the opportunity to reciprocate with a design of my own.
To take things a step further a few months ago I approached Dolly to enquire about the possibility of her making some exclusive Horrorwood plush toys (her other speciality apart from paper).
She kindly agreed and the results are what you see here.
There are 2 colourways of what I have dubbed “Horror Cat”, and 1 of “Horror Bunny”.
For these toys, Dolly took 2 of her existing designs and created these special Horrorwood colours with faces taken from some of my illustrations.
I will be opening the official Horrorwood online store sometime soon and these will be some of the opening products on offer.

贔屓目に見るとか関係なく、個人的に「Calling All Cars」シリーズの中ではDolly Oblongがデザインした第1シリーズの「Jimi」が本当に飛びぬけて目立っていると思う。
素晴らしいデザインのお返しに、Dollyのオリジナル・シリーズ「Paper Totem」にデザインを提供させてもらった。
Dollyはペーパークラフト以外でも、とても可愛いらしいぬいぐるみも手作りしたりしている。
それを見て僕はいつかHorrorwood限定のぬいぐるみを作ってもらえたらいいなと思ってた。
Dollyにその提案を出したら、話にのってくれ、なんと、ここに紹介している可愛いネコとウサギを作ってくれた。
他の作品をベースにしたものに僕が選んだ色と僕のイラストから取った顔の表情を足してくれた。
近々Horrorwoodのウェブ・ストアをオープンする予定で、このぬいぐるみは最初の商品になる。

My group art show “The Art of Gravity” came to a close last week.
Though we were not overwhelmed with visitors, there was a pretty good turn out.
As always everyone managed to muddle together an interesting display with a wide variety of works on offer.

As mentioned before I decided to try an all papercraft exhibition for the first time.
Though displaying paper is a little trickier than illustrations, I think I was successful and it was great to see all of the stuff I had been hording in boxes finally seeing the light of day.

Having so many different people’s work as part of my display certainly made an impact and I’d like to say thanks again to all of you who have contributed designs to the Calling All Cars series or who have done collabo work with me so far.

僕が参加しているグループ展示会「The Art of Gravity」が先週終了しました。
びっくりするくらい沢山の人が来てくれたわけではないけど、良い経験になりました。
相変わらず、幅広いジャンルの作品の集まりなのに不思議と良いディスプレイが出来た。
以前書いた、今回僕は初めてペーパークラフトばかりを展示することにした。
ペーパークラフトは確かにイラストよりディスプレイしにくいけど、結果的には成功したと思う。
ずっとダンボール箱に眠っていた作品がやっと日の目を見た。
「Calling All Cars」のシリーズや他のコラボ・プロジェクトのおかげで、僕の物だけではなくて、色んなアーティストの作品も展示することが出来た。
コラボして頂いたアーティスト達に再び感謝します。

Following hot on the heels of the Urban Paper show in the Netherlands, the next exhibition will be held here in Japan from September 7th-20th.
Josh McKible (Nanibird) kindly organized the event, which will be held at Cafe Pause in Tokyo run by Tokyo-based writer Jean Snow.
At present there are 13 artists confirmed for the show including Josh and myself.
In celebration of the opening of the show Josh also created a very lovely little paper toy mascot (above) which can be downloaded here.
I will also be revealing my Jumbo Go Bananas craft for the first time (below) in Tokyo.
This special toy will only be available at my exhibitions and possibly in limited quantities on my website at a later date.

「Urban Paper」発売記念の展示会はまだまだ続く。アメリカ、オランダに引き続き、今回は東京！
「Nanibird」のJosh McKibleがまとめ役になってくれた。ライターのJean Snowが経営している池袋のCafe Pauseで、9月7日～20日に開催。
今のところ、僕とJoshを含めて13人のペーパーアーティストの作品が展示されます。
Joshは展示会のために特別にとても可愛いペーパークラフトのマスコット（上参照）を作ってくれた。ここをクリックしたらダウンロード出来ます。
今回僕は「Go Bananas」の巨大バージョン（下参照）を初めてお披露目する。
このクラフトは展示会でしか手に入らないけど、人気があったら後日ネットでも提供するかもしれない。

As most of you probably know I am a big toy and film fan. One of the best blogs out there for covering news on both of these topics is ToysREvil (TRE), which I check without fail every morning.

Andy from ToysREvil has been kind enough to blog about my paper toys since I started out, and a while back I propositioned him about the possibility of a tie-up piece between TRE and Horrorwood.
Well, it finally came to fruition in the form of an exclusive TRE Calling All Cars paper toy.

This week sees TRE’s first appearance at the Singapore Toy Games and Comic Convention (STGCC).
Andy and I saw this as a timely opportunity to work together and my car is available in very limited numbers exclusively at STGCC. It is signed by Andy and myself and available in both the regular 100% size and very special 140% size.

The cube character was originally designed by Andy a long time ago, and his sketches that I used for reference can be seen here.
In the cube’s hand you can also see a very special toy. This is the TRE Yoka, and is Andy’s first ever real world product which he is launching at STGCC.

This year’s STGCC marks a very important point in the development of TRE and will also hopefully be the start of an exciting relationship with Horrorwood.
Along with running his own booth at the convention, Andy is also an official blogger for the show.
Needless to say Andy is very busy right now.

お気づきだと思いますが、僕はおもちゃと映画が大好き。
数年前にこの両方のトピックを万遍なくカバーしているブログを発見した。
そのブログは「ToysREvil」(TRE)で、毎朝必ず読んでいる。
前からTREのAndyさんは僕のペーパークラフトをいつもアップしてくれて、Horrorwoodの凄く心強いサポーターです。
なので、ちょっと前にAndyにHorrorwoodとTREとで何かのコラボプロジェクトが出来たら･･･と提案してみた。
嬉しいことにAndyはその話にのってくれて、TRE 「Calling All Cars」の特別なペーパークラフトを作った。

今週Andyの母国シンガポールで「Singapore Toy Games and Comic Convention」(略STGCC、おもちゃなどの展覧会)が開催れた。
TREは今回初めて出展者としてSTGCCに参加する。
このがきっかけで僕たちはコラボクラフトを作ることにし、STGCCで限定品として販売されている。
2人のサイン入りで、普通サイズと巨大バージョンがある。

実は車に乗っているブルーのキャラクターは昔Andyがデザインしたもので、今回僕がクラフト用に手を加えたもの。

そしてモンスターが手にもっているおもちゃもAndyによるデザイン。
しかもこの黒のベアは彼にとって初めてデザインが立体化（フィギュア化）されることになった記念すべき作品。
上記の展覧会「STGCC」で初リリースされます！

今年の「STGCC」は色んな意味でTREにとって大事なイベントとなり、HorrorwoodとTREのとの面白い関係も始まった。、
Andyは今回出展するだけではなく、同時にSTGCCのオフィシャルブロガーの1人でもあるので今もの凄く忙しいのは言うまでもない。
