At the end of last year I got an unexpected call from a good friend of mine back home.
He said he wanted to enlist my help in drawing his family crest.
I was very happy to accept as I thought it would be a fun little project and a good way to repay my friend for all his help and support over the years. On top of that I have always been a big fan of the images involved in heraldry.

My friend had done all the research about what symbols and colours were needed and all I had to do was slot it together. Along the way I also learnt a few new bits of heraldic vocabulary such as ‘mascle’ and ‘torse’.
I am pretty pleased with the result and got the thumbs up from my friend too.
He is currently threatening to make polo shirts using the crest for all his family…

年末にイギリスの親友から突然の電話があった。
僕に彼の家の家紋を描いてほしいとのこと。
その友達には昔からいつも世話になっているので、いいお返しになると思って喜んでリクエストを受けた。
昔から西洋の家紋に興味があったので楽しいプロジェクトになった。
友達は家紋に含まれているパーツを全て調べてくれたので、それを組み立てて作った。
このプロジェクトを通して紋章学の色んな専門用語も勉強出来て、凄く面白かった。
完成品は結構満足できるものとなり、友達も喜んでくれた。
今ポロシャツに家紋の刺繍をいれて、家族全員に配ると脅している…（笑）

A few weeks ago I went to see a group show called “Permutations” which included the work of some artist friends who I have previously collaborated with on many occasions – namely Adrian Goodhand (photography), Junya Aga (sculpture) and Jeremy Lanig (photography).
They were joined by Mami Nagaoki a professional travel photographer.
The exhibition was held at Gallery MaruR in Kitahama Alley, Takamatsu (previous haunt of my Gravity shows).
I was also kindly invited to join but declined due to lack of time.
I have to say that the result was probably better without my work.
The three walls of the gallery were covered with photos with an intricate hanging instillation in the center making for a perfect balance which fitted the space well.
I apologize that this report is well after the fact but below are a few photos to give you a taste of the show.

この間、「Permutations」というグループ展をたずねた。
4人のアーティストの作品が紹介されて、その内の3人は以前何回も一緒に展示会をしたアート仲間の
Adrian Goodhand（写真）、阿河淳也（スカルプチャー）とJeremy Lanig（写真）。
あと一人はプロの写真家ナガオキ・マミ。
場所は昔Gravity展を開催した高松の北浜アリーの「ギャラリーMaruR」。
実は僕も参加に誘ってもらったのですが、最近時間がないので残念ながら断りました。
でも、見に行くとすごくよくまとまった雰囲気で、僕の作品はない方がいいと感じました。
ギャラリーの三つの壁にアーティストごとに写真がいっぱい展示されていて、真ん中に淳也さんの繊細なスカルプチャーが
つり下がっていた。スペースにぴったり合った、バランスのいい展示でした。
イベントがもう終わってしまったので、このリポートは遅すぎと思うけど、ちょっと雰囲気を味わってもらえると思うので
写真を何枚かアップします。

先週展示会が終了しました。
今回は残念ながら本格的に参加することを出来なかったけど、お客さんからの評価は良かったそうです。
今後もこのグループで色んなかたちで活動できたらいいと思います。

Apologies for the lack of activity recently.
We returned to England for a month and since then work and family business has kept me very busy.
On top of that my computer died taking some of my artwork along with it…

Anyway, here at last is the finished colour version of “Tatargami” that I introduced a few months ago.
I am currently exhibiting this piece and a few others here in Takamatsu as part of a group art show entitled “Far Away So Close”. It features the work of foreign artists living in my area as well some of our Japanese friends. Many diciplines are represented and I think it makes for a very interesting show.

The exhibition is being held at Salon De Rubis from October 24th until November 27th.

長らくごぶさたしていました。。
夏に一ヶ月ほどイギリスに帰っていたのと、その後もずっと仕事やプライベートな事で忙しかったうえに
パソコンが完全に壊れてしまって、作品データの一部も消えてしまった。

今回この前紹介した「祟り神」の完成品をやっとアップします。
現在高松市内でグループ展示会に参加していて、この作品も出しています。
今回の展示会は香川県に住んでいる外国人と知り合いの日本人アーティストによるもので、タイトルは「Far Away So Close」。色んな分野の作品が展示されているので凄く面白いショーになると思う。
ルビー商会の「Salon De Rubis」で１０月２４日～１１月２７日まで開催されています。もし機会があれば是非寄ってください。詳細は以下のポストカードに。

Here is a custom I did a few months ago of VinsArt’s Ape-Paper.
My design is called “Profondo Rosso” (a nod to the horror theme and the fact that Vins is Italian).
I used Photoshop for this one, as a more realistic approach seemed to fit the model better.

My latest illustration is taking so long to complete that I thought I would show a work-in-progress image to prove I am actually doing some artwork this year!
Here is the line work and I am currently working on the colouring.
