Here is my latest illustration entitled “Widow of the Woods”.
I had intended this one to be more like a rock poster, but it ended up looking a bit like an Art Nouveau book plate. I am however pleased with the look. I wanted to include a lot of natural elements and make the piece very clean and decorative in style.

Here is a video interview with my favourite artist and toy designer James Jarvis.
The interview provides an insight into James’s techniques, as well as his philosophy on art in general.
We also get a good look at James’s studio and sneak peeks at some rare sketches and toys.

「The Art of Gravity」展、第三弾を一年ぶりに開催します！
10月13日～19日に開催する予定で、メンバーは前回と殆ど一緒（メンバーの人数だけが変わって、今回は7人になる）。
フライヤーとポスターのデザインが出来たのでここで紹介します。アーティストの詳しいプロフィールなどはホームページへ。
展示会のジャンルがあいかわらず幅広くて、絵、写真、彫刻、シルバー、かばん、等等。
僕はイラストやＴシャツ、小物などを展示する予定です。
10月に高松にいらしゃったら、是非来て見てください。

After a year’s hiatus The Art of Gravity group show will return this October from the 13th to the 19th.
Most of the details are the same as before, except for the number of artists participating (this time 7).
The flyers and the posters are done and are presented here and more details can be found on the homepage.
There will be painting, photography, sculpture, silver work, bags and a lot more.
I myself will be displaying illustrations along with some t-shirts and other products.
If anyone happens to be in Takamatsu, Japan in October please swing by.

僕の最新のイラスト「Bedlam」（混乱）を紹介します。
今まで僕の作品は大体Ａ４サイズ以下でしたけど、今回はもうちょっと大きいやつに挑戦したかった。
Ａ３は言うほどでかいわけではないけど、このサイズだったらもっと細かい絵を描ける（描かなければならない？）と思った。

最初に描いたキャラクターは真ん中のやつ。あいかわらず最初はもっとグロテスクなものを想像してたけど、出来上がりを見たら結局パステルカラーの可愛いパーティーみたいになってしまった…。

最近色んな素晴らしいアーティストの作品に次々と出会って…、もっともっと腕を磨かなくちゃと思っている。
決して満足しないということは、もしかしてアーティストの原動力になるのかも。

Here is my latest illustration entitled “Bedlam”.
Most of my pieces up until now have been A4 size or below, but this time I wanted to do something on a larger scale. Though A3 is hardly huge, the size did at least allow me (force me?) to put in a lot more detail.
I started with the guy in the middle and again had intended the piece to be more horrific, but it ended up being all candy-coloured.

Recently I have seen a lot of amazing work by other artists and it is pushing me to up my game.
Never being satisfied seems to be the best impetus for an artist.

７月のペーパークラフトを紹介します。
もっとホラーっぽいものを作ると言ったものの、結局あまりホラーぽくなくなっちゃいました。
今回のテーマはびびっているマタドール（闘牛士）と、ちっちゃいわりに恐ろしい闘牛。

より細かいクラフトを作りたくて（牛の角の部分など）、マタドールの基本の箱の形をちょっとアレンジしてパワーアップしてみました。
タイトルは「Toro Oscuro」。スペイン語のつもりだけど、実は喋れないので、間違っていたらすみません（一応ネットで色々研究しました…）

Here is my paper toy for July. Though I promised a more horror-themed toy, this one is only partly so. I went with a nervous matador and small but menacing bull.

I wanted to create a more complex design (hence the bull’s horns) and tried to expand on the basic box shape with the matador. The title of the set is “Toro Oscuro”. I don’t speak Spanish (though I tried my best to do my research), so apologise if the title is a little off.

今週イラストが完成し、雑誌の高い基準を満たす作品になることを望んでいます。
計画通りに行ったら、僕のイラストは今度の雑誌に載せてもらえます。とりあえず、そのデザインをちょっとだけ披露します。

A few weeks ago Ryan from I Want Your Skull surprised me with an invitation to submit some artwork for the next issue of his magazine. I was of course delighted but at the same time a little apprehensive, as the quality of the work found in the magazine is exceptional and there are usually many well known names in the lineup. However I took it as an opportunity to raise my game and have just completed a piece that I hope meets the standard of the magazine.

All being well my piece will feature in the next issue of I Want Your Skull. In the meantime here is a sneak peek of my illustration.

今年のHorrorwoodオリジナルTシャツの第1弾が完成しました！ただいま発売中！

シルク・スクリーンは意外と難しいっていうことに気付いたけど、結果には満足している上、いい勉強になりました。

最初のデザインに「Bad Eggs」っていうキャラクターを選びました。
このキャラクターは昔から頭の奥にありました。
Tシャツは１００％綿のヘビーウェートTです。プリント入りの封筒に入って、特別のフルカラー・ポストカードも付いています。
サイズは殆ど全部揃っていて、色は今のところ白に黒か黒に白。

これから色んなデザインを色んな色でリリースする予定です。

I have finally completed my first batch of T-shirts and they are officially now on sale.

I discovered that screen printing is not as easy as it appears, but am pretty pleased with the result and learnt a lot through the experience.

For my first release I went with a simple black and white design called “Bad Eggs”.
These are characters that I have had flouting around in my head for some time now.
The shirts are 100% heavy-weight cotton and come in a screen printed envelope with an exclusive full colour postcard.
They are available in most sizes and come in black on white or white or black.

Here is my latest illustration.
I am into masks at the moment and also meaty characters.
The idea behind this was some kind of woodland entity with a splash of Western fairy tales and Japanese legends.

Oh, and I’ve just made my first batch of T-shirts for this year - 100% handmade and on sale soon.

昨日Gravityのメンバー嶋谷と濱田が家を訪ねてくれた。
着いてすぐ、浜田君に小さい金属の箱を渡された。開けたら、凄い物が入っていた：
オリジナルな手作りSkullboyフィギュア！！

前の展示会で僕のイラストをフィギュアに出来たら最高だという話をしていて、
知らない間に濱田君が苦労してそのフィギュアを作ってくれた。
僕の大好きなベアブリックをベースにして、手作りのパーツを付けて改造したらしい。
このフィギュアをいっぱい作れたらいいな～と思った… 玩具メーカーの方がこれを読んだら連絡ください。

ちなみに、次のGravity展は10月13日～19日に開催する予定。詳細は後ほどアップします。

Fellow Gravity members Shimatani and Hamada came to visit us the other day.
On arrival Hamada produced a little silver box and announced that he had something for me.
I am now the proud owner of a one-off, hand-made Skullboy figure!

We had talked at the last exhibition about how cool it would be to turn my Skullboy illustration into a figure, and unbeknownst to me Hamada has been quietly working on this little fella for many months.

The base is a Be@rbrick (one of my favourite toys) onto which Hamada grafted and sculpted new parts.
I only wish there was some way to turn this into a production piece. If there are any toy manufacturers out there, please get in touch.

これは6月のペーパークラフト。先月のオモチャのリミックスです。
今回のキャラクターはチンパンジー警察のベテラン警官。
前回紹介した、いたずら好きなサルは高速道路にバナナの皮を落とそうとしているから、パトカーで追跡！
机の上で二匹並べたらいい感じ。是非作ってみてください。

Here is my paper toy for June. As you can see I went for a remix of the last design.
The title is “The Long Paw of the Law” - an officer from the Chimp Police Department keen on stopping the “Go Bananas” chimp from dropping his banana skins all over the highway.
As hoped the 2 apes look pretty nice chasing each other on my desktop.
