Go Bananas!

Our story starts at the Pump Plex, a huge sports arena on the outskirts of Hollywood. The Pump Plex is home to one of the most exciting shows in all of America - the "Go Bananas!" monster truck show! There are 2 drivers that have come to dominate the show and can't be matched for popularity. The first is Steve Fanfare in his truck named "The Alpha Male", a huge yellow affair with a picture of Steve beating his chest in a loincloth on the side. Now what has really been drawing the crowds recently is the second driver "Walnuts", who is in fact a huge mountain gorilla. Walnuts is however proportioned more like a man and fits perfectly into the driving seat of his specially adapted monster truck "The Mountin' Gorilla". Walnuts's truck has a picture on the side of himself doing a thumbs-up while grasping a banana that is nearly popping out of its skin. Steve and Walnuts have formed a team to create the headline show of each Pump Plex event. The show is called "Go Bananas!" Go Bananas is like no other monster truck show on Earth! More cars and more crushing than can be seen at any other event.

The show starts off fairly normally with a few low key stunts performed by the 2 drivers. Soon however the 2 trucks pull up side-by-side and the crowd knows that the madness is about to begin! "The Mountin' Gorilla" is a right-hand drive vehicle, so when the 2 trucks pull up side by side the drivers can link hands while holding a flexed arm pose. This is the signal for the crowd to go wild! At this cue they all start shouting "Go Bananas! Go Bananas!" And that is exactly what the guys in their trucks do! After releasing their flex grip of comradery, Walnuts grabs a banana off the dashboard and in the same pose as is depicted on the side of his truck he squeezes the banana right out of its skin and into his grinning mouth. Then the engines roar. The trucks mount heap after heap of cars, absolutely crushing them. Sometimes they ride in tandem and even do a high 5 out of the window to show how easy it is, and other times they ride in convoy, double-crushing the cars. The crowd loves every minute of it and continuously chant, "Go Bananas! Go Bananas!" When it is all over the drivers climb out of the windows of their cars (which are riding high on top of the highest pile of cars in the arena) and beat their chests.

However there is one guy in particular that was not a big fan of the Go Bananas! Show. His name is Bobby Pistons and he used to be the number one truck driver until Steve and the ape joined forces. Needless to say he was not very happy about his fall from the top. Bobby used to rule the show with his massive monster truck "The Bulldog". The crowds would come not only to see the mangling ability of his mighty mobile, but also his pet bulldog "Bones" who would poke his head out of the passenger side with a big bone in his mouth. There was also a picture of Bones on the side of the truck looking particularly ferocious with a huge bone in his mouth. Bones now spent most of his time moping around the back of the Pump Plex with Bobby pacing back and forth plotting his revenge. "I'll show that chump and his chimp," growled Bobby.

Bobby was not the brightest spark but it just so happened that his uncle was an inventor. One day when Bobby was over at his uncle's house he decided to snoop around the basement as there were always interesting contraptions lying around. In the corner of the basement there was a tall device covered in a dustsheet. "What ya reckon's under here Bones?" he said as the bulldog started to pull the sheet away with his teeth. Bobby had no idea what it was that was in front of him but a flashing red switch drew his attention. "Stand back Bones!" he commanded as he gingerly flipped the switch. There was a great whirring and buzzing and then suddenly a bright beam of light burst out of the top of the machine. Bones had dropped his bone at the foot of the machine and it was caught in the beam. As soon as the light hit the bone it started to swell up and began to grow and grow. "Woah!" exclaimed Bobby as he leapt to flip the switch back off. He paid no attention as the delighted Bones set about gnawing on the gigantic bone as he was deep in thought.

"I think I may have an idea that will put an end to the banana guzzler's antics and put me back on top!" As he said this he positioned Bones right under the machine and hit the switch again. "Here goes nothing!" Bones was so engrossed in chomping the bone that he hardly noticed that he was rapidly growing in size until his head hit the basement roof and he gave out a yelp. But Bobby wasn't satisfied until the dog had burst right through the roof of the 3-storey house. "See how the crowd likes this at the Pump Plex!" whooped Bobby with excitement. He enticed the huge bulldog back to his house by dragging along the monster bone with his truck, drawing amazed stares from all around.

Bobby tied Bones up as best he could in his yard using a tow rope from his truck and went into the house for a good night's sleep. "I can't wait to see the look on those jerks' faces when the get a loada my Bones!" he gloated to himself. However when Bobby got up in the morning Bones was nowhere to be seen, and the tree in his yard was completely uprooted! He jumped into his truck and headed off in search of the gigantic dog. Bones had left a massive trail of destruction around the neighborhood, which meant it was quite easy to track him. Bobby finally tracked the dog down after an hour. He arrived in Hollywood to see hundreds of people screaming and pointing up at the Hollywood sign. There was Bones at the top of the hill gnawing on the sign as though it were a huge bone! "What am I gonna do now?!" he yelled in desperation. After racking his brains for a while he realized there was nothing for it. He would have to swallow his pride and beg Steve Fanfare for help, as one truck would not be enough to deal with the giant dog.

After a lot of garbled explaining on the phone, Bobby led Steve back to his uncle's house to show him the growth beam contraption. After a few minutes of contemplation Steve banged down his fist and exclaimed "I got it!" He quickly called up Walnuts, who sped over in his truck as fast as he could, nearly crushing the neighbor's car in the process. "You'll have to trust me on this one Walnuts," said Steve as he placed his hairy friend under the beam. Steve flipped the switch and stepped back. "Zzzzapp!" went the machine and soon Walnuts was towering above them, his head well clear of the hole in the roof made by Bones previously. "Wait there!" Steve cried up to Walnuts.

Bobby and Steve hauled the growth beam onto a trailer that they had attached to Bobby's truck. Bobby got into the driving seat and Steve positioned himself behind the growth ray on the trailer treating it like some kind of mounted cannon. "And now this is where you come in Walnuts!" yelled Steve. "Use our trucks like roller skates and just follow us!" Walnuts stepped out of the wreckage of Bobby's uncle's house and stepped into the open backs of "Alpha Male" and "The Mountin' Gorilla". "Hit the gas!" shouted Steve, and Bobby's truck roared off down the road, with Steve gripping hard onto the side of the trailer and Walnuts charging along on his makeshift "monster" skates behind them with a big grin on his face.

When they finally reached Hollywood hill they arrived just in time to see Bones' huge paw come down on a squad of police cars that were attempting to control the giant mutt. The cars were completely crushed and the police fled for their lives. Walnuts immediately went into action. He picked up the huge bone that the dog had abandoned and flung it as hard as he could away from the police cars. Bones gave a booming bark and set off after the bone, but Walnuts was not far behind on his "skates". However when Bones grabbed the bone he just kept running and he was heading right for a school full of kids! "Oh no!" hollered Walnuts, "What should I do?" Just then there rose up from the crowd that had formed along the road a familiar chant. "Go bananas! Go bananas!" "Of course!" whooped Walnuts. He delved into his pocket and produced one of his bananas, which had also been blown up to giant proportions. He gave the banana his customary squeeze, gulping down the fruit in one. He them tossed the skin out in front of the dog.

Bobby sped passed Walnuts heading right for Bones just as the huge hound slipped up on Walnuts' banana skin. The truck screeched to a halt and Bobby managed to leap to safety as Bones came crashing down on the back of the truck. The trailer that contained Steve and the growth beam was whipped to one side. Steve just managed to flip the switch of the machine as one of Bones' flailing Paws came crashing down onto the trailer. The beam machine was flipped high up into the air catching both Bones and Walnuts in its beam. They were both shrunk back to normal size before the machine came crashing down to earth and burst into flames, narrowly missing Steve.

There was a stunned silence for a moment and then the crowd around them erupted with applause and started chanting once again "Go bananas! Go bananas!" All Walnuts could do was beam with pride as he climbed on top of his truck. Steve dusted himself down and he too took his customary place on top of his truck to do the ritual "Go bananas!" chest beating with Walnuts. Bobby was in the background chastising Bones and wailing in frustration as he stared in disbelief at his mangled truck.

The "Go bananas!" boys had saved the day! Their reward was a special evening to be held in their honour on Hollywood Boulevard. As they were preparing for the evening Steve looked at himself in the mirror while putting on his tux. "I hate these monkey suits!" he said. "Hey!" shouted Walnuts in fake indignation. "Oh sorry," replied Steve with an embarrassed smile. Steve proceeded to rip the sleeves of his tux to reveal his huge arms. "Now that's better!" he laughed, "Better get going Walnuts, our crowd is waiting!"

They made their way out onto the Boulevard to be met by the biggest crowd they had ever seen, all chanting, "Go bananas!" They made their way proudly down the street in front of the flashing cameras to where the mayor was waiting. In front of them was a patch of wet cement and they knelt down to put their handprints on the famous Boulevard. When they got up they gave each other a rather sticky high 5, jumped into their waiting trucks and headed off into the night, the sound of the crowd ringing in their ears.

Bonus scene:
We see Steve and Walnuts parking their trucks behind the Pump Plex and then Walnuts chuckles to himself. "What so funny?" enquires Steve, in response to which Walnuts pulls back the cover on the back of his truck to reveal a whole bunch of super-sized bananas. Walnuts has the biggest grin ever on his face and they both fall about laughing and slapping their thighs.
