BIG TOP O' SAURUS

Friendless Junior High student Billy finds friendship in the fantasy world that he creates for himself at the funfair and circus. While the circus is in town he visits it every day, much to the despair of his parents who can't figure out why Billy doesn't go with his friends. Billy's favourite at the Big Top is the routine the clowns do with the seal, where the seal will honk a row of horns using its mouth to play familiar circus tunes. After the show Billy likes to go on the rides especially the haunted mansion.

One day Billy got a nasty shock after leaving the circus tent to discover that a group of bullies from his school were at the fairground. Billy hid behind one of the lion's cages watching as the bullies showed off their muscle with the "Test your Might" mallet and bell contraption. In his mind he could hear the bullies taunting him in their usual manner - "Bwilly Bwilly", they would chant before pushing him into his locker and shutting it tight. Seizing the chance Billy rushed into the nearest ride as not to be discovered by the bullies. He had never seen the ride before but he knew he had to hide. The sign at the entrance said "Dino-mite Duo" under a brightly coloured picture of a Brontosaurus with a stick of dynamite in his mouth looking down menacingly at some hunters. Billy thought it strange that there was noone at the ticket booth but was glad that he had escaped the mean bullies.

He sat in one of the cars and it started off automatically with a jolt. On either side he passed by mechanical dinosaurs and also some cavemen that looked all too real. After a while the car rounded a corner and headed into a jungle zone. The foliage became denser and denser and up in front he could see a T-rex with flashing red lights for eyes. The T-rexes mouth suddenly opened and a cloud of smoke billowed out. Billy got a strange feeling as the car passed inside the dinosaur's mouth. For a moment he couldn't see anything and then suddenly he felt a cool breeze on his face and the car was outside. But this wasn't the fairground.

Billy couldn't believe his eyes, he was in a REAL prehistoric valley. Up above him there were pterodactyls circling around and in the distance he could see an erupting volcano. Billy rubbed his eyes to make sure he wasn't dreaming and as he did so he felt something rubbing against his legs. He looked down to see a baby Brontosaurus peering back up at him.
"Wow!" he said out loud. "Look at you little fella!"
Billy knew all about dinosaurs and he had many books at home. Just as he bent down to stroke the little dinosaur he heard a roaring sound and looked up to see the head of a full sized Brontosaurus mother coming towards him. He cowered in fright. However the mother gently picked up her baby and placed him down outside the car and to Billy's surprise turned to him and said IN ENGLISH:
"Sorry about Bronty he's always getting into mischief".
Then Bronty piped up "But Mom!"
"But nothing Bronty. How many times do I have to tell you! I'm sorry we don't get to see many of your kind round here."

Just then a pterodactyl swooped down out of the sky, perched on the mother Brontosaurus's back and peered curiously at Billy. Billy had to look twice at the Pterodactyl as he noticed that he was wearing shades. He tipped the shades with the claws on his wing and continued to stare at Billy over the top of them.
"Pretty cool huh?"
"Where's your manners Terry?" said Bronty's mother giving her back a shake.
The pterodactyl flapped his wings to keep his balance and then said "Hi, sorry my name's Terry! I haven't seen one of your kind for a long time. In fact I snatched these shades from the last set of 2 legs that came by here. What's your name?"
"BBBilly" Billy stuttered but he looked very happy.
"Well, well, where are MY manners?" said Mrs. Brontosaurus. "You must be very hungry after all this excitement, let's head to the town for some dino-nosh!"
She then clamped Billy's shirt collar in her mouth and lifted him cleanly onto her back.

Then they were off with little Bronty trotting behind trying to keep up and Terry flying up above chattering away excitedly. Billy gasped as they entered the Dino village. There were all kinds of dinosaurs all around busying themselves with different jobs. As they passed through the gate an elderly Iguanodon raised his cap with his tail and smiled at Billy. As they passed further along a chubby Triceratops handed Billy an apple from his stall and Billy munched away happily.

After spending a day in Dino Town the sun began to set and Mrs. Brontosaurus told Billy that it was time for him to go. Billy didn't want to go back but knew his parents would be getting worried, so he said his tearful goodbyes and headed back towards the cave where he had entered this amazing Dino World with Terry, Bronty and his Mom. Bronty's Mom placed Billy gently back into the car and as a parting gift Terry took off his shades and put them clumsily on Billy's nose.
"Your shades! I can't accept these!" said Billy though he was very happy.
"Don't worry," said Terry "they're too big for me anyway. Besides you look really cool and I can always steal a new pair!"

They all laughed and before he knew it the car had moved off and was heading back through the jungle. He now felt very sad but was glad to have made such good friends.

The air became warmer and then he found himself surrounded by the mechanical dinosaurs. It was only when he emerged from the ride that he remembered about the bullies. Unfortunately for him they were waiting round the corner and caught him by surprise as he was still day dreaming about his new dinosaur friends. He walked straight into the leader of the gang.

"Ooh look what we have here. If it isn't little Bwilly!"
The other bullies laughed and started chanting "Bwilly! Bwilly!"
"It's not Bwilly it's BBBilly!" stuttered Billy angrily.
"Oh is that so? BBBilly," taunted the head bully.
"Stop that or I'll..."
"Or you'll what?"
"The Brontosaurus will get you!" cried Billy pointing behind him towards the Dino-mite ride.
The bullies all fell about with laughter.
"Ooooh! The Brontosaurus will get us! Did you hear that you guys?"
Billy looked behind him to find that he was pointing at a large stuffed toy elephant hung up above one of the stalls. The ride had completely disappeared.

The bullies dragged Billy over to the stall and started to dunk his head in the water where the prize tokens were floating. "Stop!" gargled Billy when ever they allowed him to surface for air. Just when he thought he couldn’t take it anymore he heard a loud splash and turned round to see that all the bullies had fallen into the seal pool behind them.

They were flailing around and the leader of the bullies had a huge fish in his mouth that was wiggling its tail. Billy was wondering how this could have happened when he looked to the side of the pool and to his great surprise he saw a huge Plesiosaur.
"Wow!" Billy thought, "he must have followed me back through the ride".
The bullies looked terrified and then to Billy's delight the Plesiosaur started playing a tune on the horns that the seal normally used.

Billy took the shades that Terry had given him out of his pocket, put them on and turned to the soaking wet bullies. "Now that's Dino might!" he laughed. "We'll get you for this Billy!" gargled the head bully as he spat out the fish. But for now Billy didn't care, he turned his back and set off for home. His parents would never believe this!

FINAL SHOT:
The camera pans out away from Billy behind the big top and we see the Dino-mite Duo ride. The camera then zooms in on the Brontosaurus's face on the sign and it gives a wink to the camera.
