Trouble maker A.J. is always up to something and often attracts the attention of local cop Officer Puffs. The trouble making generally comes in the form of water balloons or stealing a hot dog from the stand on the corner, and results in the overweight Puffs charging after the boy before losing his breath or his trousers round his ankles. However things are about to changeEbr>
While on a school trip to the local science museum A.J. is bored and decides to snoop around behind some closed doors. He finally reaches a door labelled "Top Secret" and gingerly hops in for a peek. Inside he finds all kinds of gadgets and gizmos, but something in particular catches his eye, a pair of hi-tech looking goggles in a glass case. "Wow!" says A.J. out loud as he presses his nose up against the glass. Across the top of the contraption it says "Goggleplex 3000" in a futuristic font. Temptation gets the better of him and he reaches inside the case to grab the goggles. As he does so an alarm sounds and he panics and beats a hasty retreat goggles in hand. He makes his way back to his class group and pretends that he was with them all along. The whole group is ushered out of the museum by the guards as they search for the thief. With the goggles bundled in his backpack A.J. hurries home.
After supper A.J. decides to try on the goggles. At first he thinks that nothing has happened but when he looks at himself in the mirror much to his surprise he sees his own skeleton! They were X-ray goggles! Now the fun really begins!!!
(As with all X-ray based antics, what A.J. sees with the goggles seems to be purely based on what is useful for adding humour to the story or for plot progression. For example, although earlier he had seen his own skeleton, later on he employs the goggles to look through women's clothing and sees them in their underwear.)
The story unfolds as A.J. progresses from pranks to crime solving when he inadvertently sees through a warehouse wall to witness a crime gang loading contraband into crates. Though noone will believe him at first he eventually saves the day and gets into Officer Puffs good books. Along the way the goggles will no doubt get into the wrong hands. Possibly the hands of the crooks or maybe just A.J.'s older brother wanting to "see what these things can really do" at a frat party.
There are always options for Goggleplex to become a series launched by this first TV movie instalment, with A.J. working with Puffs to solve a different crime each week. Of course A.J. doesn't give up his trouble making ways completely and there is usually a laugh to be had at Puffs' expense.
"Darn that kid!"
