Fairly wealthy suburban American kid has plenty of toys but not enough love from his parents (Dad is a hard-headed CEO of a technology firm, Mom is always out). The kid has a small gang of friends and they are all into computers. The main kid obviously has the best stuff and so they are always round his house. There is a fat kid, a computer whiz and a Chinese kid.
One day the main kid gets his hands on the latest video game and they all go round to his house to play it. They all fight about who's going to play first but end up watching the rich kid play. HOWEVER when they get to the final level a strange message flashes up on the screen and they all get sucked inside the computer. Several adventures ensue involving lots of circuit board imagery and enemies from the game. Each kid has a main scene where their special talent comes to the fore. The whiz kid breaks codes that allow them to control certain areas of the computer world, the Chinese kid jumps his skateboard over a gap in a narrow causeway over a deep pit of lava and the fat kid beats some cavemen in an eating competition or something. The last confrontation with the boss is of course saved for the relatively good looking blond protagonist rich kid. The boss may not be a human adversary but may just be a "mainframe".
Somewhere along the line they go in and out of the world through the computer screen and other characters get involved. There is revenge on his older jock brother and his gang and they save the jock brother's blond girlfriend and the pubescent teen gets a kiss on the cheek from her. She is wearing her prom dress. Also it would be good to work in the rich kids parents so that they realise that they have been neglecting the kid. This would no doubt involve the evil game boss doing something evil in the real world with the dad's computer company, so they realise that the kid was telling the truth all along.
The all important last shot would be of the victorious kids heading to the game store with money from the rich kid's parents talking about buying the latest video game. As they walk down an alley they pass a poster which shows the game they are talking about (it's version 2 of the game that they got trapped in).
EITHER it is an image of the evil boss who starts laughing and the ringing laughter continues into the credits
OR if you look carefully as the camera zooms into the poster you can see that all the kids from the movie are in the new game.
The game may be called M.A.I.N.F.R.A.M.E. as numonic names are popular, regardless of the fact that it CANNOT possibly stand for anything.
