Heavy Petting is the channel's attempt at a slightly more risqué early evening sitcom. The show runs much like a live action version of Magilla Gorilla minus any originality or genuine humour.
Josh Wiederhorn is a college Freshman who is strapped for cash. As a new recruit at the Alpha Epsilon frat house partying is mandatory but also costly. Josh therefore has to take on a part time job. After several unsuccessful attempts at washing up and pizza delivery he winds up taking a job at a rundown pet shop owned by old Mr. Walowsky.
Now the fun is really about to begin!!!
Expecting a cushy job, Josh certainly gets more than he bargained for at the pet shop! Almost every day Josh is faced with some kind of crazy scenario involving giant boa constrictors or a huge gorilla. This usually involves Mr. Walowsky having to leave Josh in charge of the shop while he attends to "urgent business". Of course when left to his own devices Josh is intent on partying back at the frat house and so usually ends up "taking his work home with him". This means that whatever funny animal he has been left in charge of that week goes back to the frat house with him and much hilarity is consequently guaranteed.
We get gorillas driving the principle's car, chimps stealing underwear from the girls' dorm, and a huge grizzly bear as a live mascot for the football team. Naturally each episode ends in disaster with Josh called into the principle's office or having all his pay docked by the pet shop owner. It does however cement Josh’s place at the top of the frat house party league.
In spite of its suggestive title, the show is completely watered down to pander to the family crowd, but has enough cleavage shots of the college librarian and scenes of Josh being left outside in the nude with only a pizza box to cover his parts thrown in to keep Dad satisfied and get the kids giggling much to Mom's annoyance.
**Expect heavy canned laughter**
